Overview

Paclitaxel (DHP107) is an orally bioavailable formulation of the microtubule-stabilizing agent paclitaxel, developed by Daehwa Pharmaceutical. Utilizing a proprietary mucoadhesive lipid-based drug delivery system (DH-LASED), DHP107 overcomes the poor oral absorption typically associated with paclitaxel, which is a substrate for the P-glycoprotein efflux pump. Unlike traditional intravenous formulations such as Taxol, DHP107 does not require surfactants like Cremophor EL, thereby significantly reducing the risk of hypersensitivity reactions and eliminating the need for corticosteroid premedication. The drug was approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2016 for the treatment of advanced or metastatic gastric cancer, marking it as the first oral paclitaxel formulation to receive regulatory approval. It is currently undergoing clinical evaluation for other indications, including breast cancer and various advanced solid tumors.
