Overview

Paclitaxel Accord is a generic taxane chemotherapy medication containing the active substance paclitaxel. It is a microtubule-stabilizing agent that works by binding to the beta-subunit of tubulin, promoting microtubule assembly and preventing their disassembly. This stabilization inhibits the normal dynamic reorganization of the microtubule network that is essential for vital interphase and mitotic cellular functions, leading to cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase and subsequent apoptosis. Developed by Accord Healthcare, this formulation is used to treat various cancers, including advanced ovarian cancer, metastatic breast cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer. It is also indicated for the treatment of AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma. Clinical research groups like GORTEC have evaluated its efficacy in recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, often in combination with other agents like cetuximab or platinum-based therapies.
