Overview

WGI-0501 (Myxane) is an albumin-bound nanoparticle formulation of paclitaxel developed by WhiteOak. It is designed as a generic version of nab-paclitaxel (Abraxane). The drug functions as a microtubule stabilizer, interfering with the normal breakdown of microtubules during cell division, which leads to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells. The albumin-bound nanoparticle delivery system enhances the solubility of paclitaxel and facilitates its transport across the endothelial cell layer via the gp60 receptor-mediated pathway, potentially improving tumor penetration. It is currently being developed for the treatment of breast cancer, specifically triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and is following an ANDA (Abbreviated New Drug Application) regulatory track.
