Paclitaxel ceribate is a prodrug designed to deliver paclitaxel, a widely used chemotherapy medication. Paclitaxel functions as a cytoskeletal drug that targets tubulin, specifically binding to the beta-tubulin subunits of microtubules. This binding stabilizes the microtubule polymer and prevents its disassembly, thereby disrupting the dynamic equilibrium of microtubule assembly and depolymerization essential for cell division. This interference leads to defects in mitotic spindle assembly, chromosome segregation, and ultimately blocks the progression of mitosis, triggering apoptosis or cell cycle arrest in rapidly dividing cancer cells. Paclitaxel is indicated for the treatment of various cancers, including ovarian, breast, and lung cancers.
