Overview

GO-PEG-PTX is a novel drug delivery nanosystem that combines the anticancer drug paclitaxel (PTX) with a graphene oxide (GO) nanosheet carrier that has been modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG). The PEGylation of graphene oxide improves biocompatibility, increases blood circulation time, and enhances tumor targeting[6]. The nanosystem delivers paclitaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing agent, directly to cancer cells, potentially improving therapeutic efficacy and reducing systemic side effects. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that GO-PEG-PTX exhibits enhanced cytotoxicity to cancer cells (such as A549 and MCF-7) compared to free PTX, with prolonged blood circulation and increased tumor accumulation[5][6]. The system can be further engineered for stimuli-responsive drug release (e.g., pH, thermal, or near-infrared irradiation), allowing for controlled local delivery and possible combinations with photothermal therapy[1].
