Overview
Paclitaxel Micelles for Injection is a nanoparticle formulation of the taxane chemotherapy agent paclitaxel, designed to improve the drug's solubility and safety profile. Unlike traditional paclitaxel formulations that require solvents like Cremophor EL (which can cause severe hypersensitivity reactions), this micellar formulation encapsulates paclitaxel within polymeric micelles. This delivery system aims to enhance the therapeutic index by increasing drug concentration at the tumor site through the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect while reducing systemic toxicity. It is being evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University for the treatment of various advanced solid tumors, including breast, ovarian, gastric, and non-small cell lung cancers.
