Overview

PAD-VCD is a chemotherapy regimen used primarily for the treatment of multiple myeloma. It alternates two combinations in cycles: - PAD (bortezomib, pegylated liposomal doxorubicin, dexamethasone) - VCD (bortezomib, cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone) Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor that disrupts protein degradation in cancer cells, leading to cell death. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide are cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents that damage DNA and inhibit cell division. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects; it also helps reduce side effects from other drugs. The regimen is considered evidence-informed and part of standard care for multiple myeloma patients who are not eligible for stem cell transplant or as induction therapy prior to transplant. The intent of this regimen is palliative—to improve survival and quality of life[2][4].
