Padeliporfin is a vascular-targeted photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (VTP) for the treatment of localized solid tumors, primarily low-risk prostate cancer and low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer. Upon intravenous administration, it remains confined to the vasculature and is activated by near-infrared laser light (753 nm), triggering a photochemical reaction that generates reactive oxygen species. This leads to rapid occlusion of tumor blood vessels, local hypoxia, and subsequent tumor cell death. The therapy also induces an immune response against the tumor. Padeliporfin has been approved in the European Union for unilateral, low-risk prostate cancer and is under investigation for other solid tumors including upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and pancreatic adenocarcinoma[1][2][3][4][5][6].
