The PADRE-CMV fusion peptide vaccine is a synthetic peptide-based investigational immunotherapy designed to elicit cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific T cell responses. It consists of the HLA A*0201-restricted CMV pp65(495-503) cytotoxic CD8+ T-cell epitope fused to the synthetic Pan DR epitope (PADRE), which serves as a universal helper T cell epitope. The goal is to stimulate both CD4+ and CD8+ T cell immunity against CMV, particularly in settings such as hematopoietic cell transplantation where reactivation or primary infection with CMV can cause significant morbidity. Clinical studies have shown that the vaccine has an acceptable safety profile and can expand pp65-specific T cells in healthy adults, especially when administered with the adjuvant PF03512676[1][2][4]. The product has been evaluated in phase 1 clinical trials for its safety and immunogenicity.
