PAiN multimodal analgesia

PAiN multimodal analgesia is a standardized postoperative pain management protocol developed and utilized by St. Antonius Hospital. It is specifically employed for patients undergoing minimally invasive lung surgeries, such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) or robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS). The protocol follows a multimodal approach, combining an intercostal nerve block (local anesthesia), patient-controlled analgesia (PCA, typically involving systemic opioids), and acetaminophen. This combination is designed to optimize pain relief while reducing the total consumption of opioids and minimizing their associated adverse effects, thereby supporting enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) goals.
