Palivizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody produced by recombinant DNA technology, used to prevent serious lower respiratory tract disease caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in pediatric patients at high risk, such as premature infants or those with certain heart or lung conditions. It works by binding to the fusion (F) protein of RSV, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells and preventing infection. Palivizumab provides passive immunity and exhibits both neutralizing and fusion-inhibitory activity against RSV. It is administered via intramuscular injection, typically once monthly during the RSV season[1][2][3][6][7].
