Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Palmatine hydrochloride is a protoberberine isoquinoline alkaloid primarily derived from plants such as *Fibraurea tinctoria*, *Corydalis yanhusuo*, and *Phellodendron amurense*. It exhibits a wide range of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer effects. In oncology, it has been investigated as a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT), where light activation induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, leading to apoptosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma, breast cancer, and colon cancer cells. It also shows potential in treating metabolic disorders like diabetes and hyperlipidemia. It is a common constituent in several Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulations such as Huoxue San, Shensong Yangxin capsules, and Jikan Mingmu Drops.
