Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Palonosetron buccal film is a novel formulation of the long-acting 5-HT3 receptor antagonist palonosetron hydrochloride, developed by Xiamen LP Pharmaceutical. It is specifically designed for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in cancer patients receiving moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC). The drug utilizes a proprietary mucosal delivery platform to provide a non-invasive alternative to intravenous palonosetron. Palonosetron works by selectively and competitively antagonizing serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in both the peripheral and central nervous systems, thereby inhibiting the emetic reflex triggered by chemotherapeutic agents.
