Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Palpal is a chewable tablet formulation of sildenafil citrate developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It functions as a potent and selective inhibitor of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), the enzyme responsible for the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the corpus cavernosum. By preventing cGMP breakdown, Palpal enhances the vasodilatory effects of nitric oxide, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This chewable version was developed to provide a more convenient administration option compared to traditional oral tablets and has become a leading generic sildenafil product in the South Korean market.
