Overview

Pancreate (proisletide acetate) is a first-in-class bioactive peptide developed by CureDM, previously in collaboration with Sanofi. It is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring human peptide sequence known as HIP-2B (Human Islet Peptide 2B), which is derived from the Regenerating (REG) protein family. Pancreate is designed to stimulate the differentiation of pancreatic progenitor cells into functional, insulin-producing neo-islets. This regenerative approach aims to restore endogenous insulin production and glucose homeostasis in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, potentially offering a disease-modifying alternative to exogenous insulin therapy. Although the drug reached early clinical trials, development was largely discontinued after Sanofi terminated its licensing agreement with CureDM in 2014.
