Overview

Pancreatic kininogenase is an enzyme preparation extracted from pig pancreas tissue that acts as a vasodilator and improves microcirculation. It promotes the release of kinins, which enhance blood vessel dilation, improve microcirculation, regulate blood pressure, prevent thrombosis and basement membrane thickening. It is mainly used to treat microcirculation disorders such as diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy, fundus disease, ischemic cerebrovascular disease and can be used adjunctively for hypertension. Pancreatic kininogenase has shown efficacy in ameliorating renal fibrosis in diabetic nephropathy by inhibiting transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) expression and modulating miR-433 and antizyme inhibitor 1 (Azin1). It also has therapeutic effects on diabetic peripheral neuropathy comparable to prostaglandin E1 but at a lower cost. The drug is administered orally as an enteric-coated tablet to protect it from stomach acid degradation.
