Overview

Pertzye is a porcine-derived pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) developed by Digestive Care, Inc. for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) associated with cystic fibrosis or other conditions. It contains a combination of lipases, proteases, and amylases. These enzymes are formulated as bicarbonate-buffered microspheres within a capsule to protect them from gastric acid and ensure they are released in the duodenum, where they catalyze the hydrolysis of fats into glycerol and fatty acids, proteins into peptides and amino acids, and starches into dextrins and short-chain sugars. This supplementation compensates for the lack of endogenous digestive enzymes, improving nutrient absorption and gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with EPI.
