Pandemic vaccine 2-Butantan Institute-Influenza A (H1N1) is an adjuvanted candidate vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute for the prevention of pandemic Influenza A (H1N1). This specific formulation, identified as 'pandemic vaccine 2' in clinical trials, contains a 3.75 µg dose of the A/H1N1 viral antigen. It is formulated with a dual adjuvant system comprising 5 µg of Monophosphoryl Lipid A (MPLA) and Aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)3). MPLA serves as a Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist to stimulate the innate immune system and enhance the adaptive response, while Aluminum hydroxide acts as a traditional adjuvant to improve the magnitude and duration of the immune response. The vaccine was evaluated in a Phase I study to assess the safety and immunogenicity of various antigen-adjuvant combinations in healthy adults.
