Panitumumab-IRDye800 is an investigational imaging agent composed of the humanized anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody panitumumab conjugated to the near-infrared fluorescent dye IRDye800. The conjugate binds specifically to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-expressing tumor cells and enables real-time intraoperative fluorescence imaging of tumors using a special camera system. This approach aims to improve visualization and delineation of cancerous tissue during surgery, potentially enhancing surgical outcomes by allowing more precise tumor resection. It is being studied primarily for use in fluorescence-guided surgery for cancers such as head and neck cancer, pancreatic cancer, brain tumors (including high-grade gliomas), and lung cancer[1][3][4][5][6][9][10].
