Pannexin 2 small interfering RNA (siRNA) is an experimental RNA-based tool designed to silence the expression of the *PANX2* gene through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway. PANX2 is a transmembrane protein that forms large-pore channels and is implicated in various cellular processes, including the regulation of signaling pathways involved in cancer progression. Research indicates that PANX2 is significantly upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues and is associated with poor prognosis. By specifically degrading PANX2 mRNA, this siRNA reduces the levels of Pannexin-2 protein, which has been shown to inhibit the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. This inhibition leads to reduced tumor cell proliferation, migration, and clone formation, and can sensitize cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents like 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). It is primarily used as a research reagent to investigate the role of pannexin channels in oncogenesis and as a potential therapeutic strategy for colorectal and metastatic cancers.
