This is a combination regimen consisting of three drugs: panobinostat, carboplatin, and etoposide. Panobinostat (also known as LBH589 and marketed as Farydak) is a non-selective histone deacetylase inhibitor (pan-HDAC inhibitor) used primarily in the treatment of multiple myeloma. It works by inhibiting histone deacetylases, leading to increased acetylation of histone proteins and altered gene expression that results in cancer cell death[1][3][5]. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent that causes DNA crosslinking and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Etoposide is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks, also leading to cell death. This combination may be investigated for synergistic effects in various cancers.
