Panose is a prebiotic oligosaccharide and functional sugar, often described as a trisaccharide. It is naturally produced by various microorganisms, including lactic acid bacteria and yeasts, through enzymatic processes. Panose has demonstrated potential therapeutic benefits, such as preventing acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) by reducing bacterial infection, inhibiting oxidative stress-induced gut barrier disruption, and boosting antioxidant glutathione levels in intestinal epithelial cells via interaction with the SLC7A11 protein. Additionally, it has shown promise as a molecular chaperone for amyloid beta-protein 1-42 (Aβ42), potentially preventing its aggregation and cytotoxicity in Alzheimer's disease. It is also recognized for its prebiotic effects, influencing gut microbiota composition and metabolism.
