Overview

Panthenol is the alcohol analog of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and is widely used as a provitamin in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. Upon topical application, it is converted to pantothenic acid, a component of coenzyme A, which is essential for normal epithelial function and skin repair. It acts as a humectant, emollient, and moisturizer, promoting wound healing and reducing inflammation. It is commonly indicated for the treatment of minor skin irritations, burns, radiodermatitis, and atopic dermatitis, and is also used in nasal formulations to alleviate congestion and mucosal dryness.
