Overview

This specific quadruple therapy is a non-bismuth concomitant regimen used for the eradication of *Helicobacter pylori* infection. It consists of a proton pump inhibitor (pantoprazole) and three antibiotics (clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and metronidazole) administered simultaneously. Pantoprazole reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase pump in parietal cells, creating an environment that enhances the stability and efficacy of the co-administered antibiotics. Amoxicillin and clarithromycin act by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and protein synthesis, respectively, while metronidazole disrupts bacterial DNA. This regimen was evaluated by Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan as an alternative to standard triple therapy to overcome increasing antibiotic resistance.
