Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Panzobax is a branded generic formulation of the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) pantoprazole, marketed by the Indian pharmaceutical company Medicox Lifescience. It is available as an intravenous (IV) injection for use in clinical settings where oral administration is not feasible. Panzobax is indicated for the short-term treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. The drug works by covalently binding to the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system, also known as the proton pump, on the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. This binding results in the irreversible inhibition of the final step in gastric acid production, effectively suppressing both basal and stimulated acid secretion.
