Paper mulberry leaf, derived from the plant *Broussonetia papyrifera*, is an herbal medicine investigated for its therapeutic properties. [1] It has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat conditions such as skin disorders, with reputed effects to "clear heat, cool blood and relieve itching". [12] The leaf extract contains various bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenols, and alkaloids, which are believed to contribute to its medicinal effects. [1, 2, 3, 6] Preclinical research in mouse models of psoriasis suggests that paper mulberry leaf extract exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. [4, 5, 7] Its mechanism may involve the inhibition of inflammatory signaling pathways such as TLR4/NF-κB and PI3K/AKT, leading to a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17A. [4, 5, 7] A pilot clinical trial at China Medical University Hospital is evaluating a medicated bath formulation containing paper mulberry leaf, known as Jing-Fu-Yau-Yu-Bau, as a complementary therapy for patients with mild to moderate plaque-type psoriasis.
