Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Papilloguard is an Iranian-developed recombinant human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine developed by Noyan Pajouhan Biopharma and its spin-off Nivad Pharmed Salamat. The primary formulation of Papilloguard is a bivalent vaccine targeting the major capsid L1 proteins of high-risk HPV types 16 and 18, which are responsible for the majority of cervical cancers. It is formulated as virus-like particles (VLPs) expressed in a recombinant system and adjuvanted with a synthetic monophosphoryl lipid A (synMPL) combined with aluminum hydroxide (an adjuvant system similar to AS04). Clinical trials have demonstrated its noninferiority in immunogenicity and safety compared to the reference bivalent vaccine, Cervarix. Additionally, a quadrivalent formulation, Papilloguard 4, which targets HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18, has been developed and evaluated in Phase III trials against Gardasil for the prevention of genital warts and HPV-related cancers.
