para-Methoxymethamphetamine (PMMA), also known as P-MNA and 4-methoxy-N-methylamphetamine (4-MMA), is a synthetic psychoactive drug of the amphetamine and phenethylamine class. It acts primarily as a serotonergic agent with stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. PMMA is structurally related to paramethoxyamphetamine (PMA) and MDMA but is considered more toxic with a higher risk of fatal overdose. It has been found in tablets sold as "ecstasy" but produces less euphoria and more severe adverse effects than MDMA. The mechanism involves serotonin-norepinephrine release and monoamine oxidase inhibition. There are no accepted medical uses for PMMA; it is used recreationally as an illicit substance[1][2][6].
