Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Para-toluenesulfonamide is a small molecule sulfonamide compound with the chemical formula C7H9NO2S. It has been investigated as an antineoplastic agent and exhibits anti-tumor activity in several cancer types, including hepatocellular carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, tongue squamous cell carcinoma, and castration-resistant prostate cancer. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of carbonic anhydrase II and III enzymes as well as induction of lysosomal membrane permeabilization leading to lysosome-mediated cell death. Para-toluenesulfonamide can disrupt cholesterol content in lipid rafts and modulate survival kinase pathways such as Akt/mTOR/p70S6K. It is also used industrially as a plasticizer and pharmaceutical intermediate[1][2][3][4][5][7].
