Overview

Parabacteroides goldsteinii outer membrane vesicles (Pg-OMVs) are a preclinical biologic therapeutic derived from the gut commensal bacterium *Parabacteroides goldsteinii*. These nanoscale extracellular vesicles contain bioactive components and have demonstrated immunomodulatory activity. In preclinical models, Pg-OMVs administered orally or subcutaneously can travel to inflamed tissues and suppress inflammation. The mechanism of action involves the suppression of neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation through activation of the Cav-1-Nrf2 signaling axis, modulation of inflammatory cytokines (such as downregulating IL-23/Th17 signaling), and regulation of bile acid metabolism. [1, 4, 7, 10] It is being investigated for inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and acute lung injury. [4, 10] Currently, it is an experimental compound with no identified commercial developer.
