Overview

Paracetamol + dihydrocodeine is a combination analgesic medication used for the treatment of moderate to moderately severe pain, especially when pain is not adequately controlled by paracetamol or non-opioid analgesics alone. Paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) acts centrally to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, providing analgesic and antipyretic effects. Dihydrocodeine is a semi-synthetic opioid that binds to mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, inhibiting ascending pain pathways and altering both the perception of and response to pain. The combination provides greater pain relief than either agent alone due to their complementary mechanisms of action[5][6][8]. This medication is available by prescription in various strengths and formulations.
