Drug intelligence / Profile preview
paracetamol + opium powder + caffeine is a fixed-dose combination analgesic used for the treatment of moderate pain. It contains three active ingredients: paracetamol (acetaminophen), which acts as an antipyretic and analgesic by inhibiting hypothalamic heat-regulating centers and cyclooxygenase enzymes in the CNS; opium powder (opium prepared), which supplies several opioid alkaloids acting as agonists primarily at the mu-opioid receptor to block transmission of pain signals; and caffeine, a central nervous system stimulant that enhances analgesic efficacy, likely through increased absorption and pharmacodynamic synergy. This combination is primarily indicated for the management of moderate pain, including dental pain and postoperative pain, and has rapid onset of action. Its efficacy has been established as non-inferior and, in certain cases, superior to tramadol in acute postoperative pain[2][3].
