Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Astracitron Extra is a multi-component pharmaceutical product developed by Astrapharm for the symptomatic treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. Formulated as a powder for oral solution in sachets, it contains a combination of four active ingredients: paracetamol, phenylephrine hydrochloride, pheniramine maleate, and ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Paracetamol serves as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic decongestant that acts on alpha-1 adrenergic receptors to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa. Pheniramine maleate is an antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, thereby reducing allergic-like symptoms such as rhinorrhea and lacrimation. Ascorbic acid is included to support the immune system and compensate for the increased demand for Vitamin C during infection. The "Extra" formulation is specifically characterized by a higher dose of paracetamol (650 mg) compared to the standard version, providing enhanced relief for fever and severe pain.
