Overview

Paracetamol + ropivacaine is a combination of two drugs used for perioperative and postoperative pain management, particularly in surgical settings such as pediatric hypospadias repair. Paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) is an analgesic and antipyretic that acts centrally to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, thereby reducing pain and fever. Ropivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that blocks nerve impulse conduction by inhibiting sodium channels in neuronal membranes, resulting in loss of sensation or pain relief at the site of administration. This combination may be administered with paracetamol given intravenously and ropivacaine delivered via caudal or regional anesthesia routes. The rationale for combining these agents is to enhance postoperative analgesia; however, clinical studies have shown mixed results regarding additional benefit over ropivacaine alone[1][3][4].
