Parasenecio auriculatus extract is a botanical extract derived from the plant *Parasenecio auriculatus*, a member of the Asteraceae family. [9] Scientific research, particularly on the *Parasenecio auriculatus var. matsumurana* variant, has demonstrated its potential in treating atopic dermatitis. [1] In preclinical models, the extract showed potent anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting multiple inflammatory pathways, including FcεRI and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling, and reducing the production of various cytokines. [1] The primary bioactive compound identified as responsible for these effects is integerrimine, a type of pyrrolizidine alkaloid. [1] While some species in the broader plant family are investigated for anticancer properties, and pyrrolizidine alkaloids can have cytotoxic effects, the primary evidence for this specific extract points towards its anti-inflammatory applications. [1, 2, 11] The presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids like integerrimine also raises significant safety concerns due to their known hepatotoxicity. [4, 5, 6, 7]
