Parathyroid Allotransplant is an investigational biological therapy being developed by Dr. Peter Stock at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for the treatment of hypoparathyroidism. The intervention involves the transplantation of parathyroid tissue harvested from deceased (cadaveric) donors into the brachioradialis muscle of the patient's forearm. The primary therapeutic objective is to establish a functional graft capable of endogenous parathyroid hormone (PTH) production, thereby normalizing serum calcium and phosphorus levels and reducing the patient's dependence on exogenous calcium and vitamin D supplements. This clinical program was initiated in part to address the therapeutic gap left by the discontinuation of NATPARA (rhPTH 1-84). It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial known as PATTH (Parathyroid Allotransplant for Treatment of Hypoparathyroidism).
