Parathyroid hormone + calcium refers to the combined use of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcium supplementation, primarily for the management of hypocalcemia in patients with hypoparathyroidism. Parathyroid hormone is a naturally occurring peptide hormone responsible for regulating serum calcium levels by increasing bone resorption, enhancing renal reabsorption of calcium, and indirectly stimulating intestinal absorption via activation of vitamin D. In clinical practice, recombinant or synthetic forms of PTH (such as Natpara) are administered alongside oral calcium supplements to maintain normal blood calcium levels in individuals whose hypoparathyroidism cannot be managed by calcium and vitamin D alone[1][2][4]. The combination is not a single pharmaceutical product but rather a therapeutic regimen used when monotherapy with supplements is insufficient.
