Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Parecoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term management of acute postoperative pain in adults. It is an injectable, water-soluble prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed in the body to its active form, valdecoxib. By selectively inhibiting COX-2, parecoxib reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever while sparing COX-1 activity associated with gastric protection and haemostasis. Parecoxib provides effective analgesia when oral administration is not feasible, such as during the perioperative period[1][2][4][5][7].
