The parental PANC1 vaccine is an experimental whole-cell cancer vaccine composed of irradiated, unmodified PANC1 human pancreatic cancer cells. PANC1 is a human epithelial carcinoma cell line derived from a pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This vaccine is designed to present a broad array of tumor-associated antigens, such as MUC1, to the host immune system to elicit a polyclonal T-cell and B-cell response against pancreatic cancer cells. In research settings, it is frequently utilized as a baseline or control treatment to compare against genetically engineered variants, such as α-gal-modified PANC1 cells, which are designed to be more immunogenic by exploiting natural anti-Gal antibodies to enhance antigen uptake and presentation by antigen-presenting cells (APCs).
