Overview

Paridiprubart (EB05) is a first-in-class human monoclonal antibody developed by Edesa Biotech for the treatment of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), including cases associated with COVID-19. It functions as an antagonist of Toll-like Receptor 4 (TLR4), a key component of the innate immune system that, when overactivated by damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) such as S100A8/A9 (calprotectin), triggers a dysregulated pro-inflammatory cascade or 'cytokine storm.' In clinical trials, paridiprubart is administered as an intravenous infusion in addition to the standard of care (SOC) to reduce mortality and the requirement for invasive mechanical ventilation in hospitalized patients with severe respiratory distress. The drug has demonstrated significant mortality reduction in Phase 3 trials for COVID-19-related ARDS and is being evaluated in broader ARDS populations through government-funded platform trials.
