Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Parietaria extract** is an allergen extract prepared from *Parietaria* pollen, used primarily for allergen-specific immunotherapy in patients with *Parietaria*-induced allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and sometimes allergic asthma. Its therapeutic effect is not based on classical receptor pharmacology; rather, repeated controlled exposure to the relevant pollen allergens is intended to induce immune tolerance, including a shift away from pathogenic IgE-mediated hypersensitivity and toward regulatory and blocking-antibody responses. The term is somewhat non-specific because different commercial products may be derived from different *Parietaria* species such as *Parietaria judaica* or *Parietaria officinalis*, and may be formulated for subcutaneous or sublingual immunotherapy.
