Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Paritaprevir + ritonavir is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule drugs used as part of direct-acting antiviral regimens for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Paritaprevir (code name: ABT-450) is a potent inhibitor of the HCV NS3/4A protease, which is essential for viral replication. Ritonavir acts as a pharmacokinetic enhancer by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), thereby increasing plasma concentrations and prolonging the half-life of paritaprevir to allow once-daily dosing. This combination has been studied and used in conjunction with other antivirals such as ombitasvir (ABT-267) and dasabuvir (ABT-333), forming an all-oral regimen that enables interferon-free treatment for HCV genotype 1 infection[4][5][8]. The regimen was developed primarily by AbbVie.
