Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CB-01-05-MMX is an oral, extended-release, colon-targeted tablet formulation of parnaparin sodium, a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). Developed by Cosmo Technologies, it utilizes the proprietary MMX® multi-matrix system technology, which features a lipophilic matrix dispersed within a hydrophilic structure to enable controlled drug release throughout the colon. While parnaparin is traditionally administered as an injectable anticoagulant, CB-01-05-MMX is designed to deliver the drug locally to the colonic mucosa to exploit heparin's anti-inflammatory properties—such as the inhibition of P-selectin and other inflammatory mediators—for the treatment of active, left-sided, mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis. The drug is typically evaluated as an add-on therapy to standard aminosalicylates like mesalazine, aiming to induce remission by acting directly on the site of inflammation rather than through systemic anticoagulation.
