Overview

Pascolizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-4 (IL-4). It was developed as an investigational biologic therapy for asthma and has also been studied as adjunctive treatment in pulmonary tuberculosis. By binding to IL-4, pascolizumab inhibits both upstream and downstream immune responses associated with asthma pathogenesis, including T helper 2 (Th2) cell activation and immunoglobulin E (IgE) production. Preclinical studies demonstrated its ability to neutralize IL-4 bioactivity with a slow dissociation rate from the target. Clinical trials showed that it could achieve sustained IL-4 neutralization in humans without significant safety concerns; however, development for asthma was discontinued after phase II trials[1][3][7][10].
