Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Passiflora, in the context of the Millet Roux clinical program, refers to the herbal combination product commercially known as Passiflorine. This formulation is primarily indicated for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and related sleep disturbances. The product consists of an association of three plant extracts: *Passiflora incarnata* (passionflower), *Crataegus oxyacantha* (hawthorn), and *Salix alba* (white willow). *Passiflora incarnata* is the primary active component, exerting anxiolytic and sedative effects through the modulation of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system, specifically acting as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA-A receptors. *Crataegus oxyacantha* contributes mild sedative and cardiovascular-stabilizing properties, while *Salix alba* (containing salicin) provides mild anti-inflammatory and analgesic support. The combination has been evaluated in Phase III clinical trials and is approved for use in certain regions, such as Brazil, as a phytotherapeutic medicine for anxiety management.
