Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tractamed (passiflora incarnata dry extract) is an approved traditional herbal medicine developed by Tilman and marketed in Italy by Laboratori Baldacci. It is formulated as 500 mg film-coated tablets containing a standardized dry extract of *Passiflora incarnata* L. (passion flower). Tractamed is indicated for the relief of mild symptoms of mental stress, such as nervousness, anxiety, or irritability, and to facilitate sleep. The therapeutic effects of *Passiflora incarnata* are primarily mediated through the modulation of the central GABAergic system. Active constituents, including flavonoids such as chrysin and apigenin, act as positive allosteric modulators of the GABA-A receptor and antagonists of the GABA-B receptor, while also inhibiting GABA reuptake, thereby enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission in the central nervous system.
