Overview

PastoCys is a live-attenuated preparation of the **Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) Pasteur strain**, specifically formulated for intravesical immunotherapy. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), including carcinoma in situ (CIS) and as an adjuvant treatment following transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) to prevent recurrence and progression. Developed by the Pasteur Institute of Iran, PastoCys works by inducing a potent local inflammatory and cellular immune response within the bladder wall. Upon instillation, the mycobacteria adhere to the urothelium and are internalized by bladder cells, triggering the release of Th1 cytokines and the recruitment of cytotoxic T lymphocytes, macrophages, and natural killer cells that target and eliminate malignant cells.
