Patent blue V

Patent blue v is a synthetic triphenylmethane dye used primarily in medicine to visualize lymphatic vessels, arterial territories, and lymph nodes prior to biopsy in certain cancers, such as during sentinel node mapping. It is also used for radiological examinations and as a diagnostic aid. The dye binds specifically to albumin, allowing it to travel through the lymphatic system after injection. In addition to its medical uses, it serves as a food coloring (E131) and pH/redox indicator in laboratory settings. Developed by Guerbet and approved since at least 1979, patent blue v is excreted mainly via urine and bile with an elimination half-life of about 24–48 hours[1][4][5].
