Overview

Pathogen-specific aAPC is an investigational cell-based immunotherapy designed as an artificial antigen presenting cell (aAPC) vaccine for the prophylaxis of COVID-19. The therapy utilizes synthetic 'minigenes' derived from domains of SARS-CoV-2 viral structural proteins and polyprotein protease regions. These minigenes are engineered to express viral antigens on artificial antigen presenting cells, which are then used to activate T-cells against the virus. The approach aims to induce robust cellular immune responses by mimicking natural antigen presentation pathways and stimulating pathogen-specific T-cell immunity[1][3]. As of August 2020, this vaccine was in human clinical trials for COVID-19.
