Pathogen-specific CTLs, developed by the Shenzhen Geno-Immune Medical Institute, are an adoptive cell therapy consisting of ex vivo expanded cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) designed to target and eliminate cells infected with specific opportunistic pathogens. This therapeutic approach is primarily intended for immunocompromised patients, such as those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or solid organ transplantation, who are at high risk for severe infections. The CTLs are trained to recognize antigens from multiple pathogens, including Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), Adenovirus (ADV), BK virus (BKV), as well as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and various fungi. By infusing these functional, antigen-specific immune cells, the therapy aims to restore cellular immunity and control infections that may be resistant to standard antimicrobial or antiviral drugs.
